Introducing Adaptive Rate Limiting
We're launching adaptive rate limiting in the Aurus gateway. Instead of static ceilings you set and forget, limits now respond to real conditions, tightening under stress and relaxing when there's headroom.
It's the rate limiting we always wanted: protective when it matters, generous when it can afford to be.
The Problem With Static Limits
A fixed rate limit is a compromise frozen in time. Set it high and it fails to protect you during a spike; set it low and it throttles legitimate customers on a normal day.
Static limits can't tell the difference between healthy load and an incident, so they're always wrong in one direction or the other.
How Adaptive Limiting Works
Adaptive limits watch the health of your services in real time, request latency, error rates, saturation, and adjust the ceiling accordingly. When the origin is healthy, callers get more room; when it's under strain, limits tighten to protect it.
The result is a system that defends your services during trouble and gets out of the way the rest of the time.

Adaptive rate limiting is live for all plans that include the gateway, and it works alongside the static and per-client limits you already have.
You can enable it per API or per environment from the Aurus console today, no code changes required.
